Ice cream stand
    1. Start by making new legs for the tabletop. They need to be longer than the originals to bring them up to counter height. Cut two lengths of 87cm from the softwood to form the front legs. Fit using the original leg fitting from the table. Unscrew the round metal discs from under the tabletop and fit to the top of the new leg with a long woodscrew. You will first have to make an indentation in the top of the leg to accommodate the domed side of the metal disc. We used a large hole saw and then chiselled away the excess wood. The leg with the attached metal disc can now be screwed back under the table using the original screws.

    2. The back legs need to be made much longer to incorporate the supports for the canopy. Cut two lengths 1m 85cm long. Fit into the tabletop by cutting squares 44mm x 44mm from the back two corners. This can be done using a jigsaw. The legs are secured with the smaller shelf bracket, with the longer side screwed under the table and the shorter side attached to the leg. Check that the table is level.

    3. The two larger shelf brackets can now be attached to the upper part of the back legs above the tabletop to form the front support for the canopy. Fix these 17cm down from the top of the back legs. Have the longer sides of the brackets sticking out horizontally.

    4. Fix the first long strip of softwood joining the tops of the long back legs. Use the second piece to join the tops of the brackets where the front of the canopy will hang. Finally, paint all of the new wood with two coats of white emulsion paint.

Whipped cream cans
    1. Remove the lids and mask off the top and bottom rims of the cans with the tape.

    2. Lightly sand the cans with the wet and dry paper to provide a key for the paint. Paint one can pink and the other blue, or the colours of your choice. Leave to dry and then apply a second coat.

    3. Peel off the masking tape as soon as the paint begins to dry and stick the lace hearts to the cans using spray adhesive.

    4. Using a computer and printer print off two Cream labels in contrasting colours. Cut these out and stick them to the Doily Hearts using spray adhesive.

Crochet ice creams

    Ice cream top:

Using 2.75mm hook and Yarn A, make 2 ch. Work Rnd 1 into the 2nd ch from hook. Or, make a magic loop and work Rnd 1 into loop.

Rnd 1: 6dc into 2nd ch from hook or into magic loop. (6 sts).

Rnd 2: 2dc into every st. (12 sts).

Rnd 3: [1dc into next st, 2dc into next st] 6 times. (18 sts).

Rnd 4: [1dc into each of the next 2 sts, 2dc into next st] 6 times. (24 sts).

Rnd 5: [1dc into each of the next 3 sts, 2dc into next st] 6 times. (30 sts).

Rnd 6: [1dc into each of the next 4 sts, 2dc into next st] 6 times. (36 sts).

Rnd 13: work into back loops only: [1dc into each of the next 2 sts, dc2tog] 6 times. (18 sts). Sl st into fist spare front loop of Rnd 13, then work 4dc into the same front loop and 4dc into every front loop to the end. Sl st into 1st dc to join. Cut yarn and fasten off.

    Wafer cone:

Using 2.75mm hook and Yarn B, make 2 ch. Work Rnd 1 into the 2nd ch from hook. Or, make a magic loop and work Rnd 1 into loop.

Rnd 1: 6dc into 2nd ch from hook or into magic loop. (6 sts).

    Rnds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14: 1dc into every st.

Rnd 3: [1dc into each of the next 2 sts, 2dc into next st] twice. (8 sts).

    Making up:

Start to sew the ice cream top to the wafer cone by lining up the 18 sts of each piece and stitch them together to approximately half way around. Fill firmly with toy filling then stitch the remaining seam closed. Stitch seed beads or a felted ball to the top of each ice-cream.

Following all instructions above, make 7 more wafer cones in Yarn A and make 1 more ice cream top in Yarn B, 2 in Yarn C, 1 in Yarn D, 2 in Yarn E and 1 in Yarn F (or in any combination of colour you choose)
