Annie Sloan: My New Book

This is a little departure from my regular column as instead of shining a spotlight on one of my incredible stockists across the UK, if you’ll indulge me, I would like to share with you a little bit about my new book. I am thrilled that this, my 26th book, is finally ready to go after being just a little idea in my head. And, for the first time ever, it’s available to buy from my stockists’ shops exclusively before anywhere else. This is so important to me as my whole ethos is about supporting small businesses and independent retailers around the world by making sure all my paint and products can be bought from real people in actual bricks and mortar shops. So, to have Annie Sloan Paints Everything available in this network of important, unique and creative places before bigger corporations makes perfect sense.

I feel like it’s my most personal book yet as it showcases what I’m truly about: colour, colour, colour! Even though each one of the 40 step-by-step projects is varied in style and on completely different surfaces (from leather to metal, plastic, glass, burlap, linen, veneer, canvas, dust sheets and even rope) they’re all bursting with colour. I was inspired by seeing a recent conscious shift from a restrained and muted palette to bolder, brighter choices. I’ve noticed this change not just in the world of interiors, but all over social media, art exhibitions, fashion and design. It seems like everywhere is becoming as obsessed with colour and its infinite combinations as I am. So as you will see in the pages of this book, there’s a sense of freedom to be had as I really play around with different hues.

Even though bright and bold is now at the forefront, I do feel that sometimes everyone needs a little helping hand as colour, and especially colour pairings, can be somewhat daunting at times. I’ve made this book practical, informative and easy to follow by making each project clear, simple to do and, most importantly, fun! I want you to use this tome as a guide but also as a stepping stone in giving you confidence to fill your own house with colour.

I’ve always thought that painting and decorating your house should be easy, but it should also give you joy. With each project – from the shibori dyed lampshade to the gilded sofa to the random stencil wall – I had so much fun creating every single tutorial, and hopefully that translates throughout. I feel proud that Annie Sloan Paints Everything is finally available and ready to inspire you, make you pick up a paintbrush, fill your life with colour and, even more importantly, bring you as much happiness as I had writing it.

All Annie Sloan products are available exclusively from over 300 hand-picked independent stockists throughout the UK and Ireland. Most are trained by Annie herself to run accredited furniture painting and associated workshops and can provide expert advice. Find one near you at
