  • Knitted mug hugs
    You’ll need
      • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK yarn, 1 x 50g ball each in 17 Navy (A), 20 Teal (B) and 44 Aqua (C), £5.50 each, www.deramores.com
      • 3.25mm knitting needles
      • 2 star-shaped buttons for each mug hug
    Size
      • 26cm long (including buttonhole tab) and 8cm wide; to fit a mug approximately 9cm high and 24cm circumference
    Tension
      • 28 sts and 40 rows to 10cm measured over pattern, using 3.25mm needles
    Abbreviations
      • k knit
      • p purl
      • st(s) stitch(es)
      • rep repeat
      • sl slip stitch
      • yfwd yarn forward
      • k2tog knit two together

      Using 3.25mm needles and yarn A (or B or C), cast on 23 sts using twoneedle method

      Row 1: knit each st tbl (through back loop – see note)

      Row 2 (RS): sl1, (k1, p1) 10 times, k2

      Row 3: sl1, knit to end

      Rep rows 2 and 3 until work measures 22cm

      Next row: cast off 6 sts, (k1, p1) 7 times, k2 (17 sts)

      Next row: cast off 6 sts, knit to end (11 sts)

      Next row: sl1, (k1, p1) 4 times, k2

      Next row: sl1, knit to end Rep last 2 rows three times

      Next row (create buttonholes): sl1, k1, yfwd, k2tog, k1, p1, k1, k2tog, yfwd, k2

      Next row: sl1, knit to end
